Bencharki wins Zamalek first leg
Zamalek of Egypt claimed an away victory in the first leg of his African Champions League semi-final, battant Raja Casablanca 1-0 in Morocco on Sunday night.
A first-half header by Moroccan Achraf Bencharki, former player of Raja rival Wydad, was enough to give Zamalek the victory ahead of next weekend's return leg in Egypt.
His 18th-minute goal came from an Ahmed Sayed cross who dove past Raja goalkeeper Anas Zniti.
- winners will meet Wydad Casablanca or Egyptian giant Al Ahly in next month's final.
Ahly has a 2-0 advantage over Wydad after his victory in the first leg in Casablanca on Saturday.
The semi-finals mark a return to continental club football competition in Africa for the first time since locking of Covid-19.
