In the United States, a total of five people are now confirmed to have the coronavirus which appeared in China several weeks ago. The total number of infected people is gradually approaching 3000 worldwide and the latest estimates suggest that 80 people have died from their infections.
China has issued a lock from some of the affected areas, extending a national holiday in the hope that people will stay at home and prevent the virus from spreading further. Unfortunately, Chinese health officials have also issued a frightening new warning about how the virus spreads, and that is not good news.
The Chinese health minister revealed over the weekend that the virus appears to spread between people even during its incubation period, which means that a person does not have to show symptoms to be contagious. This is extremely important, as it means that travelers can easily pass the airport health check without knowing they are infected, while transmitting the virus to others.
So far, around XNUMX confirmed cases have been documented outside of China, although the biggest crisis is obviously in the country itself. Tens of millions of people remain locked up in China and hospitals are so overwhelmed with patients that the country has had to construction of entirely new treatment plants specifically to combat the influx of patients.
If there is any good news in all of this, it is that health officials and scientists around the world are working hard on the problem, and efforts to find a vaccine are already underway. Hopefully it will happen sooner than later.
